THE EARTH-BONDING SYSTEM IN 3 QUICK AND SIMPLE STAGES :

DRILL A HOLE, SET THE BOND AND MAKE YOUR CONNECTION.

The DUBUIS earth bond system provides a fixture for a secure electrical connection on all types of structures :
It creates an equipotentiality bond between equipments and allows the passage of a high intensity current in case of short-circuit.

PRINCIPLE OF THE DUBUIS EARTH BOND :

DUBUIS earth bond consists in 2 pre-assembled parts :
  • A conical dowel having a male thread (illustration 1)
  • A shouldered bush having a cylindrical outside diameter (illustration 2).
A tensile load applied by DUBUIS's factory calibrated PMT pulling tool allows the dowel to be pulled through the shouldered bushing, while remaining fixed in the pre-drilled hole of the structure.
As the conical dowel passes through the bushing, the bushing expands within the cavity making electrical contact within the metal structure and establishing a permanent electrical connection.

The setting of the earth bonds is realized by a hydraulic tool, developing a constant and calibrated force.

Once the bond is in place the electrician has cylindrical conductive platform to make contact with the lug and a threaded stud to secure his connection.
EARTH BOND PROCESS :

1 - DRILLING THE WALL

None surface preparation is required even if the wall is covered (paint, zincing...).
Drilling the plate with respect to a tolerance of 0 / +0.2 mm.
If necessary clean the inside of the hole in case of lubricant presence.
2 - SETTING THE EARTH BOND

Make sure that the tool is unused by operating the release trigger.
Screw the earth bond in holding nose.
Place the earth bond / hydraulic tool right in the hole.
Actuate the pumping handle until an audible click.
The earth bond is now anchored in the wall.
Release the pressure by operating the release trigger.
Unscrew the knurled fly wheel in order to disconnect the earth bond and the hydraulic tool.
3 - CONNECTION

First place the copper lug on to the earth bond. It is then recommended to use a combination of a flat washer, triple spring washer and self locking nut to securely fasten the connection with the use of a torque wrench at a predetermined torque value.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS :

Tests have been carried out in order to determine electrical and mechanical performance of the DUBUIS earth bond.
  • The choice of conducting materials grants to the DUBUIS earth bond an excellent conducting power in order to drain off high intensity currents (short circuit tests).
  • This earth bond has an anticorrosion treatment.
  • The connection resists to tensile load, pressure seal and lug rotation tests.
This concept does not disturb environment (any thermic or electromagnetic pollution), it integrates itself easily into a production or maintenance operation.
