TEMPORARY OVERHEAD

| The temporary overhead contact dropper, called PEP, is a maintenance tool, which is specific to the SNCF. This tool was developed to allow a new procedure for replacing the 1500 volts overhead contact wire with auxiliary bearer cable. The temporary overhead contact dropper is used on contact wires of 107 and 150 sqmm, and on auxiliary bearer cable of 104, 143 and 178 sqmm. |

The first operation, carried out the day before winding / unwinding, consists of replacing the existing droppers with the temporary overhead contact droppers. When the temporary overhead contact dropper is in place, there is no restriction on the passage of trains. |

Next, the worn contact wire is switched over with a new wire. Immobilisation time of the winding / unwinding train is very short. The temporary overhead contact dropper is taken off the worn wire, fitted on the new wire and clipped onto the auxiliary bearer cable. |

After unwinding and a period for the new wire to relax, the temporary overhead contact dropper are removed and the permanent droppers fitted. | |

As an option, these temporary
droppers PEP are delivered in a green plastic case with wooden wedges (box holds 72 PEP). |
